Health Reform Violates Fundamental Principle

The health care plan moving through Congress is a direct violation of the fundamental principle of governing: that government is to protect rights, not create them.

Even as a practical matter, the president's irrational presumption is that government bureaucrats will make better decisions about your health care than insurance company bureaucrats. He believes the profit motive is the only reason people are denied care and that everyone will be covered for everything without limit, if only the government is in charge.

Even if this were in the realm of financial reality, there is a deeper problem. When government creates rights, our liberty is threatened, as laws and regulations are needed in increasing breadth and detail to define those rights. Enforcing those laws and regulations requires more intrusion into our lives. Rights become subject to the whim and control of whoever is in power at any given time. This was not the vision of our Founding Fathers.
